Megan on being a volunteer EMT & Firefighter
I was a volunteer EMT/Firefighter for about 15 years. I learned to think on my feet, to not react but to work through situations and look for alternative ways of accomplishing tasks. I was the only woman to finish my first firefighting class and soon realized that many in my station did not want a woman as a firefighter.
I had the skills needed to perform each task and I had the ability to look for different solutions to things that had always been done the same way.
I think women bring that solution-focused mindset into business and are able to look at problems from different angles and develop unique strategies.
